Lake Nelson Lake Nelson is a 40-acre lake with a
maximum depth of 32 feet. The lake was
drained in 1966, renovated, and
reopened to the public in 1969. Located
in the heart of Nelson County, the lake
offers the angler a beautiful view of
the Blue Ridge Mountains.
Gasoline engines are not permitted on
this lake. Fishing regulations,
including creel and size limits, are
posted at the lake. There is an
abundance of fishing opportunities at
Lake Nelson. The most common sport fish
species at the lake are largemouth
bass, white and black crappie, sunfish,
channel catfish, and blue catfish. Lake
Nelson has a large parking area. There
are good opportunities for bank anglers
along the shoreline and a good concrete
