Charlottesville Municipal BandThe Municipal Band of Charlottesville was organized on August 29, 1922. The first public concert was presented in Lee Park, near the downtown mall, on May 29, 1923. It is one of the oldest amateur community bands in the United States. Membership has grown from thirty men to about eighty-two men and women of a variety of ages and professions. Among its members are architects, secretaries, bankers, doctors, lawyers, engineers, teachers, business people, homemakers, construction workers, accountants, musicians, students, and retired persons.
The musicians rehearse or "concertize" every Tuesday night throughout the year. The band performs approximately twenty concerts a year including six in the Downtown Mall Amphitheater during the summer months. All concerts are open to the public and are free. Call for schedule of events.
